PHYSIOLOGY: Ginkgo Biloba Extract has demonstrated remarkable effect on various parts of the circulatory and nervous systems including:
1) Enhanced energy.
2) Increased cellular glucose intake.
3) Inhibition of platelet aggregation.
4) Increased cerebral and peripheral circulation.
5) Improved transmission of nerve signals.
6) Free radical scavenging activity.
Ginkgo Biloba has been shown to improve cerebral and peripheral vascular insufficiency and to increase the rate at which information is transmitted at the nerve cell level to improve mental performance. The therapeutic action is due to its high content of terpenes, flavonoids, proanthocyanins and a collection of unusual polycyclic structures known as Ginkgo heterosides (also called Ginkgo flavone glycosides or ginkgolides).
INDICATIONS: Improved cerebral blood flow provides increased oxygen and glucose to the brain and throughout the body to relieve many of the presumed "side effects" of aging. Mental performance has been improved even in healthy young women. Increased oxygen delivery is also valuable for emphysema and other chronic lung disorders as well as to mountain climbers and those living at high altitudes. Most of the clinical research on Ginkgo Biloba uses a standardized extract containing 24% ginkgo flavone glycosides at 120 mg. per day. Most standardized extracts are sold in 40 mg. capsules. Ginkgo Biloba 60 contains 60 mg. of standardized Ginkgo Biloba extract. The concentration of active ingredients varies so greatly in the whole leaf products and crude extracts that they can not be used to devise an effective dosage schedule.
